Abattoir
The Meat Co-op’s government-inspected abattoir is located at the corner of Donaldson Road and Hwy 16. At 2,500 square feet it has a chill cooler capacity of 15 beef and a shipping cooler capacity of 10 beef. The Co-op’s four-person staff can slaughter 15 beef, 25-30 lambs or 20 pigs per day.
Sanitation in the abattoir includes an ozone pump which provides a cold water cleaning antimicrobial system that produces microbial results that are better than conventional cleaning and sanitation, with the added benefits of both saving energy and protecting the environment.
